• Law is designed to protect the personal information of Massachusetts citizens
• Intent of law is to prevent personal information from being breached in the first place
• Law contains some of the tough data security standards in the country
• Law applies to individuals and businesses that own, license, store or maintain personal information about a citizen of Massachusetts
• Full compliance must be achieved by March 1, 2010 |

- Conduct an organizational risk assessment
- Create a written information security plan (WISP)
- Implement computer system security requirements
- Ensure third party vendors have capacity to protect personal information you give them access to
- Train employees
- Monitor compliance on an ongoing basis
