Experience

Mr. Piessens brings to MFA over 20 years of diverse accounting, financial reporting and audit experience. As the lead partner of MFA’s Technical Accounting Advisory practice, Michael works closely with CFO’s and controllers at private and public companies of all sizes in various industries, specializing in high tech/software and biotech/life sciences. He provides critical accounting and financial reporting consulting assistance and guidance on a broad array of areas, including audit and IPO readiness, SEC and private company financial reporting, GAAP to IFRS conversion, complex equity and debt accounting, revenue recognition, leasing, derivatives and acquisition accounting. Michael is also highly regarded as an expert technical guidance adoption resource, providing frequent internal and external training and implementation support for newly issued and future effective U.S. GAAP and IFRS authoritative guidance and accounting standards, including the newest standards on revenue recognition and leasing.

Prior to MFA, Michael’s professional career included division controllership roles at an international leader in the payment processing industry and at a publicly traded alternative risk management insurance company. He also spent three years working as an auditor for Ernst & Young in Boston.
